About us
System change not Climate change!
Youth for Climate is a climate youth movement that seeks to limit the consequences of the climate and biodiversity crisis by uniting as a movement and exert political pressure while raising awareness in society.
For this, we believe that an immediate system change is absolutely necessary! Therefore, we protest, mobilise youth and organize ourselves as activists. As a movement, we believe that it is highly important to share the same values in order to reach these goals. To limit global warming properly and create a system change, we believe that a better world for everyone should be created, in which these values are incorporated.
Climate Justice = Social Justice
We as Youth for Climate made it our mission to spread awareness about this global issue as well as everything and everyone connected to it.
We acknowledge that there are less privileged minority groups. They are a victim of inequality and structural discrimination. These inequalities and injustices will be amplified by climate change. It’s important that we acknowledge this, that we stand with everyone facing inequalities and that we show our solidarity.
Besides this, we - as a climate movement - should focus on intersectionality. We cannot fight for climate justice without fighting for social justice.
To work towards a sustainable future, we need a socially just transition with enough support for workers and employees. Sufficient funding for companies to make this transition possible is necessary.
We also want to make sure that everyone feels safe during our actions. To realize this we must condemn all kinds of violence. This means that we’re non-violent towards property and all living beings, during our actions we aren’t damaging or harming either of them. Everyone must be valued and respected.
Unite behind Science
In the new world we envision, science will contribute to a sustainable economy, and a society that respects planetary boundaries.
For a sustainable economy, we mean an economy that positively impacts the climate and environment, people’s wellbeing, cultural diversity and ecological footprint. This means a society in which care and people are prioritized over profit and growth.
To achieve this we worked together with a group of independent scientists and experts led by Jean-pascal van Ypersele and Leo van broeck to design a climate action plan for belgium specifically. Afterwards we personally handed this to all party leaders. You can find our action plan here: https://www.klimaatpanel.be/nl
